Brickell City Centre
A massive mixed-use project in a dense urban environment
Brickell City Centre is a $1.05-billion, nine-acre mixed-use development in downtown Miami. PBI erected two blocks of the three-block project. The north block is a seven-level retail podium covering 240,100 square feet. It is comprised of 1,995 tons of structural steel, with a 140-ton connector bridge over 7th Street. The west block is a five- to nine-level retail podium and a 14-level office tower covering 449,400 square feet. It is comprised of 3,535 tons of structural steel, with a 145-ton connector bridge over South Miami Avenue. The two blocks had a total erection duration of eight months.
The north block used one ground-based Liebherr LTM 1160 (190-ton) hydraulic crane, and a fixed-base Peiner SK-315 tower crane for the retail area. We also alternated the use of two fixed-base Peiner SK-415 tower cranes for the retail area in the adjacent condo structure.
The west block used one ground-based Liebherr LTM 1160 (190-ton) hydraulic crane, a Manitowoc 999 (275-ton) crawler crane, and a fixed-based Peiner SK-315 tower crane for the retail areas. We also alternated the use of two fixed-base Peiner SK-405 tower cranes at the adjacent condo structure for portions of the retail. The 14-story office tower was erected with a fixed-based Peiner SK-405 tower crane.
There were a total of eleven tower cranes on the project, three at the north block, four at the west block, and four at the east block.
