Texas Children’s Hospital

A new signature entrance for the Texas Medical Center
This three-level curved pedestrian bridge connects three separate structures at the Texas Children’s Hospital. It allows patients and staff to move freely over traffic on Fannin Street and the METRORail light rail system, while also creating a high-profile new entry point for the Texas Medical Center.

The 640-foot-long structure was built under very challenging logistical conditions, including limited staging space, a narrow erection window, and strict restraints on grade loading. To address these challenges, PBI put together a detailed erection plan that included crane mat or steel plate placement for every lift. Our preparation work also included creating drawings depicting pick radii, crane capacity to be used, and movement of each piece of steel.

The project received a 2010 Project of the Year award from the Steel Erectors Association of America.
